KZN's Hidden Treasure & Reflections on Heritage (KwaShandu)
Hidden amongst the township of Inanda in Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal, there lies a Museum and Community Centre called KwaShandu. This is a place where artists and creatives from all walks of life can find shelter, and because of its natural surroundings, it makes an ideal location for camping, exchange programs and artists’ residencies. AfriG Studio visited and documented the experience at KwaShandu because this establishment’s time-capsuling essence is rich in literature, fine arts and content related to South Africa’s history, heritage and culture. The mission of this project is to reinstate the principle of oneness amongst South African creatives who are currently more in competition than in collaboration with one another and to encourage more indigenous representation of heritage through creative projects.
